CSS Rollovers

This Action is something that most Freeway 4 users will want to try. It builds rollovers using CSS, and not JavaScript.

The Action works in a very similar way to the standard Rollover Action provided by Softpress. The difference is that the Action outputs CSS to swap the images instead of JavaScript. The result is very lean code, and a modern browser will love you for it. Triggering Slave Chains is also possible, and this functionality will add the usual JavaScript for the triggers.

Slight Differences

There are slight differences with the way the Action works in Freeway. The Action will not work with Image Maps - either ones you have deliberately set up or ones that Freeway may auto-generate. It is normal (and bizarre) that a simple rollover construction (2 images overlaid, with the Action applied) will force an image map when encasing the image with a single <a> tag would be enough. As CSS is being used, this kind of behaviour is not helpful, so the Action supresses the image maps and builds a normal, regular link around the image. As a result, in some situations, the Action may not work properly or produce unexpected results. I would think that you would have to try prertty hard to experience this, but the warning is here. Of course, if you do come across a situation where you get odd behaviour, let me know and I’ll see if it’s within the remit of CSS to oblige.

If the item you have applied the Action to is contained within a table that is being used as the Menu in the Menu Bar Action, it will not work. The Menu Bar Action re-writes the HTML to produce the drop-down menus, and this Action suffers badly as a result. You can use it in the Menu Bar table, though.

Other than this small caveat, the Action should work as expected. You will need Freeway Pro 4.1.1 or greater to use this Action.
